Am I the only one in the country worried about this?
I don’t won’t to scare monger, but this is surely a mini Y2K problem just waiting to rear its ugly head. So why aren’t we hearing more about the effort (or lack thereof) being placed into solving this imminent problem??
I feel there is a distinct Kiwi case of “…she’ll be right” going on. Fixes are actually being supplied by the big players (Microsoft, Sun even Oracle) . Its been reported, and the vendor community knows about it, but the issue just doesn’t seem to generating the same “urgency factor”.
Mauricio also raised the problem in May, so don’t say you haven’t been warned…

Hi Bill: just caught up with your blog - nice!
Sorry for tardy reply on this but one of my colleagues here at Fronde had raised it back in May 2007:

Hi Des,
Yes, the subject has been known (especially by vendors), but my comment was directed at the general public and the media. It’s not considered a big enough deal now to make the news.
Wait until a week to d-day, and you’ll see panic!!
