Just come back from seeing Die Hard 4.0. Nothing like a bit of Bruce Willis blowing up everything in site to take your mind off a 40 page assignment. Anyway, if you haven’t already seen the movie, or the previews, Bruce is now saving America with the help of a Mac (or least the “Getamac” guy Justin Long who plays a computer guy - ha!).
Without giving away the whole story (like you didn’t know that Bruce was going to blow up a lot of stuff, kill a lot of people, end up covered in blood, yet save the day), I learnt a new term in reference to IT security; “Fire Sale“.
The story itself is based on an article written by John Carlin for Wired magazine called “A Farewell to Arms“. The term “Fire Sale” isn’t actually used in the article, and I get the feeling that it was written off the top of one of the writers heads. Interesting concept, yet the logistics involved in actually rendering an entire country paralised would be mind-boggling.
Regardless it was a great movie with some fantastic visual effects - nice to see the F35 make an appearance - possibly the last US fighter jet.
