Lawn Mowing - $300/hr

I remember doing a finance course as part of my Certificate of Management a number of years ago, and one point the lecturer made stuck with me.

To make a point, he asked the group what hourly rate we would put on our own time.  Shouts of $300/hr to $500/hr were heard across the room; to which he responded that was the value we put on our own free time.  If it takes you an hour to mow the lawns for example, and you can pay someone $50 to do it for you, then you’ve effectively saved yourself $250.

I was thinking about this again when pondering some ideas that I’m throwing around with a friend.  Do you spend time yourself putting a system together, or do you spend real money asking someone else to do it for you?  If you do it yourself you save $$, but lose out on time with your family.

It becomes a bit of an ethical/moral debate at the end of the day.
